2022 Artist Recap

2022 buzzed with milestones, transformation and reconnection. The year began with a presentation to Canadian Federation for University Women, viewable on YouTube. I enjoyed connecting with this impactful group!

In spring, I participated in the 100 Day Project, creating and sharing a new artwork daily. I explored new mediums while further developing my artistic voice. I released my music online and jammed for the first time. I entered my third year of studying guitar with Mike Ferraro from Long & McQuade. I also completed a large, narrative painting, Between the Light and explored new ways to include embroidery in my artwork.

I steered my giving energies towards First Saturday, a regional open art studio walk like the Crawl yet held the first Saturday of every month. Artist membership grew 33% year-over-year despite a new, annual membership fee. We began to see more visitors! I also hit a 1,000 follower milestone with my own art Instagram account. The prestigious Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Ball returned after a few years halted by the pandemic. I was delighted to receive their invitation to donate again to this important cause. I celebrated 10 years cancer free in 2022! I sold several works this year including Take Flight, Mi Amor My Love, and Keepers of the Coast among others. 35% of the proceeds of latter went towards protecting the environment through Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance. I hosted my first art demo in my art studio for about 25 attendees!

Visiting art museums and travelling again locally and internationally was inspiring! As several dear ones are in the US, it was a milestone to finally reconnect after three years!

Exhibition highlights include groups shows with Jen Tough Gallery’s Artist Alliance and The Gallery George. My work was sold in the secondary market. I also participated in my third Eastside Culture Crawl. I was lucky to be curated into their paid exhibition, Next, at The Cultch!

I love being an artist and am so grateful the privilege. Thanks for being part of my community. Thanks to my collectors!! Your support means the world to me. View available work.

2023, I’m coming for you! Onward and upward.

Happy New Year!

 Daring to Create – The Adventure of Being an Artist

Have you ever wondered what if? Joanne Probyn has made a life of asking this question. Her curiosity and commitment have led her to become a full-time, contemporary, abstract painter and hand embroiderer. Yet, making art is more than choosing the right colors. Joanne invites us on her unique path sharing how she finds balance, inspiration and motivation. Her amazing journey spans decades, careers and cultures. Following the creative professional dream often requires great leaps of faith! Discover Joanne’s key learnings while taking a visual tour of her beautiful art.

Her contemporary embroidery was recently featured in Fun Size, a curated art book published by Jen Tough Gallery, New Mexico. Career heights include local and international awards such as North Vancouver Arts Council Award for Excellence in Painting and contributions to Vancity, Vancouver, BCAMA Marketer of the Year, and Chandler Chicco Agency, New York, Magellan’s Top 50 Publicity Campaigns. Joanne is the past vice president of the Canadian Public Relations Society – Vancouver Chapter. She completed her education in design and illustration at Capilano University and holds a marketing management certificate from UBC Sauder.

Joanne is a founding member of FLOURISH Art Group, a BC-Based, female artist collective and is a key contributor at her studio collective, Eastside Atelier in Vancouver. She is an active member of several art groups in Canada and the United States including THRIVE Art Studio, B.C., and The Artists Alliance, New Mexico, and the Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC). Christie’s, Global Art Awards…Probyn’s work getting noticed

“What other people say about me is none of my business.”

I try to be zen. This means avoiding reactivity to good or bad situations, including people’s opinions. Yet sometimes, despite my best intentions to be bamboo–I just can’t. And today I have some fun news that I’m simply bubbling over with excitement about!

My work has received positive feedback from:

  • Michael Jeha, Managing Director & Deputy Chairman, Christie’s Auctions;
  • Global Art Awards;
  • Art Please (blue chip art sales)
  • Art Collector Association;
  • Pari Nadimi Gallery;
  • Georges Bergès Gallery
  • Tokyo Art Fair
  • Katrin Fridrix, Artist (Venice Biennial 2015);
  • Dario Meli, Co-Founder Invoke, Quietly, Hootsuite, Foodee; Hayo Magazine; Curator Art Rapture;
  • Joshua Jensen-Nagale, Photographer;
  • Deanne Moser, Canadian Art Consultant;
  • Ami McCay; Pure Interior Design;
  • Artslandia Magazine; and,
  • Tiko Kerr, Artist.

Ok, that’s enough. Whatever….  😉
